Trial diary excerpt and the Protest case settles.

Thursday Jan. 25, 2024.

The seventh day of trial is over in our prophlaxis Aspergillus fungus class action against Seattle Childrens’ Hospital. Walk into the hall and see Alysha Katie Lisa Melanie Furhad Brendon Kassie Julia and some of our BLM peaceful protester clients.  Say:  do you think any of the media will make it.

We settled the protest case for $10M the day before.  Actually it had been lingering for a week since the mediation.  When the city agreed to a deal then two stepped before refusing to put it in writing. Double crossers.

Then yesterday the city said it would sign the deal IF I agreed to a media embargo til 3:00 this afternoon.   I mean who demands a media embargo. Maybe celebrities announcing a marriage or a divorce. But a city against a single boutique law firm. How silly. How petty.

Well, I’m shown the city attorney’s stupid statement. Saying it doesn’t admit fault and just wanted to get this lawsuit over with.  That’s why it’s paying $10M - because it’s tired of being in a lawsuit. Give me a break.

And with the combination of fighting Jake and Judge Rogers in trial all day and seeing that stupid release I am just mad as all get out.  Enraged in fact.  But also coldly calculated and prepared to the point, where we already with the help of our client Joey Wieser put together a video of the case.  And Saturday (6 days ago) on the plane back from Maui I wrote the press release which Alysha finished up.  And then because I couldn’t do anything due to being in this trial, Kassie Kristin Katie and the others in my firm worked to get everything in order. And invited as many protest clients and media as could come quickly to to the hall outside our courtroom.

And as the reporters are loading microphones into my pockets and we all gather round.  I let all my rage ring fine and true and utterly blast the city for being bully punks.  And I am so mad.  Crying mad.  Which means nothing to me.  Because I’m not afraid of tears.  And they don’t stop my brain from feeding my mouth.

When we begin to disburse one of the camera reporters ask for more comment.  And as I’m answering questions he says:  you are a sound byte machine. Smiles and swats his head with his hand: guess that’s why you’re a trial lawyer.

Take Alysha home.  Am stuck in traffic forever.  Pick up Nala who is running around so fast that her caregiver at Downtown Dog Lounge is chasing after her trying to put her harness on.  Finally corals her.  Then is pulled arm extended laughing until Nala reaches me.  Throws herself right at my torso.  Doesn’t quite manage to tip me over.  But hits hard.  And off we go.  Into the night.
